OUR CHURCH: Parish Life
There are a number of committees and ministries that parishioners participate in - in support of parish life. If you are interest in any of these and would like to volunteer call the office and let us know 202-726-2080.
Acolytes: This ministry is open to all ages and supports the clergy in performing services.
Adult Bible Study: A group that has been meeting after the 8:00 a.m. service for many years. Members participate in the study of the Bible and lively discussions. Anyone can join in.
Altar Guild: Members perform the housekeeping duties required for the celebration of the Eucharist and other sacraments/services in the church. Membership is open to men, women and young people. Responsibilities include: flower arranging , washing and ironing of linen, care of vessels, purchase supplies, preparing the altar for all services and care of the Sacristy.
Buildings & Grounds: This committee is usually chaired by the Junior Warden and works closely with staff to preserve the buildings and grounds of St. Paul's.
Advisory Board for the Episcopal Center for Children: This committee represents St. Paul's in support of the Diocesan Episcopal Center for Children, a treatment center for emotionally troubled children of the Washington metropolitan area. Services provided include therapy and special education.
Finance Mission Group: This group focuses on the financial performance of the parish including church and cemetery operations and investments.
Hospitality: A small group of faithful members who manage the set-up for coffee hour and Adult Bible study breakfast.
Lectors, Lay Ministers: Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers serve at Eucharistic services and Evensong.
Library, History and Archives Committee: This committee is actively involved in the preservation of St. Paul's history. They have worked hard to assemble 250 years of archives in one location and will be working on updating written materials on the parish's (church and cemetery) history.
Outreach Council: The Outreach Council is made up of parishioners representing several outreach projects including Food & Friends, The Capital Area Foodbank, support of several sustaining ministries, Thanksgiving baskets, and winter blanket drive. See a description under the Outreach page.
Second Tuesday: This is a social group that meets the second Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. for a movie, refreshments and fellowship. It is open to all.
Stewardship Committee: This committee focuses on the stewardship of the parish as regards pledging and returning to God that which is God's own.
Strawberry Festival: This annual event has taken place for well over 150 years at St. Paul's. On a Saturday in June, tents are erected to cover the food that is offered, the hand crafted items, fresh strawberries, jewelry, plants and white elephants offered for sale. There are games and crafts for children. Parishioners and community members of all ages are invited for the afternoon.
The Women of Rock Creek Parish: A long standing organization made up of all the female members of the parish focused on good works. Annually, the Women offer the Memorial Day flower sale which involves soliciting orders for flowers to be placed on the graves of those buried in Rock Creek Cemetery. This group meets monthly for a luncheon and planned events.
