OUR CHURCH: Outreach & MinistriesOUTREACH COUNCIL The Outreach Council is comprised of members who play a role in expanding community outreach beyond the gates of Rock Creek. Since 2006, the cottage has been occupied to house homeless families through Capital Interfaith Hospitality Network (CIHN). Your financial support is needed to help defray some of the costs to support this program. CIHN needs volunteers to be with these families and or supply dinner some evenings and weekends.
We have been collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support The Capital Area Foodbank. We continue to volunteer at Food and Friends once per month by assisting them in slicing and dicing vegetables to prepare food for those who are not able to. Sometimes we are called upon to help in delivering the prepared food to some of these homes. We continue to support the DC Boy's choir and our neighborhood karate group. We also support the african orphans by purchasing their hand-crafted arts, and jewelry on display from the African Team Ministry. The money collected brings great relief to the children and those in need by providing help in the care of education, jobs for unemployed women and resources for projects of refugee relief and health care needs.
This year, we contributed to five (5) of our sustaining ministries:- Howard University Campus Ministry,University of Maryland Campus Ministry; St Paul's College; Samaritan Ministry and Transitional Housing.
We-Care packages were sent out to members of our parish continuing post secondary education during spring and fall semesters. Because of your donations and monetary support to the Thanksgiving Food drive and winter blanket drive, we distributed Thanksgiving baskets along with gift certificates to 6 families and donated 27 blankets to Springroad Men's Homeless Shelter in 2007. We plan to do the same in 2008.
Outreach mission for the future is that more parishioners will participate by contributing their time, talents and ideas to this ministry.
